Recreational Magazine

__________________________________________________________________________________

Here I have my edited version of Elle and the original copy of Elle. I think everything went amazing, the puffs and plugs took up the most time but I got there. The program I used was Photoshop. We were asked to use Photoshop to edit our picture and InDesign to create our magazine but I didn’t like InDesign. Every time I added the picture that I edited on Photoshop, it came up pixelated or fuzzy and it generally didn’t work for me so I stuck to Photoshop.  I edited Maisie’s skin to make her look darker, her eyes bigger, her hair blonder and the background darker. I made the background dark by selecting the wand toll and selecting the background, then got the paintbrush toll and selected the colour black. Then I went onto a separate layer and coloured in my highlighted area black then turned the opacity down. I edited in the Elle sign by selecting the wand toll and moving it onto my other picture in a different layer for each letter. After I had them where I wanted them, I merged all 4 letters down to each other to create one layer. The barcode was pasted in. The tools I used were the text tool, liquefy and paint brush tool. I haven’t learnt any new skills for this project; I applied the skills I used for the recreation photo.
Even though Nicki’s eyes are small; they’re longer than Maisie’s which was quite a struggle. I tried to make Maisie’s eyes bigger but they’re more round than the originals. The clothes – obviously we couldn’t have Maisie’s breasts out so instead I used normal school uniform. There came a trouble when, because Maisie’s top is white, the plugs and puffs didn’t stand out. When you have a dark background and feature like the original, the plugs and puffs stand out but because on my recreation, some of Maisie’s clothes were white, I had to make sure the plugs and puffs didn’t go over her because it didn’t stand out. I could have easily changed them to a darker colour but the background was dark, making them not stand out either way. Maisie’s position is a bit high. N the original, Nicki’s head touches the top of the magazine and we can see her legs. On my recreation, Maisie’s head is an inch away from the top and we can’t see her legs. If I recreate another magazine, I would make sure Maisie’s position was properly aligned with the original, making her head touch the top of the magazine cover and us seeing her legs and hands. Also the plugs and puffs are out of place a little bit or I might have used the wrong font. You can see on some of them that some words are in bold, next time I would make these bold on my recreation. If I did this project again, I’d try to use InDesign to get a higher grade and show the new skills I have learnt. Overall, I’m very pleased with my cover as I’ve never done something like this before. It looks similar to the original.
