Becoming a film director: He was a truck driver, and after he watched the original Star Wars it inspired him to enter the film industry. He quit his job and when he read Syd Field's book Screenplay.  He then wrote a ten-minute science fiction script with two friends called Xenogenesis. Soon later he got a job as an art director for the film Battle Beyond the Stars. After a bunch of low budget films, he went on to bigger and better things like being the special effects director for movies like Piranha II. The director left the project for Piranha 2 and Cameron was hired by Italian producer to take over, giving him his first director job. When the premiere for the movie was about to proceed, he realized almost his whole crew only spoke Italian, and no English. Experiencing stress, Cameron had a nightmare about a robot sent from the future to kill him, giving him the idea for The Terminator, which catapulted his career from there.
