Roles and Responsibilities
Qualities Needed
Producer/ Director
It’s then their responsibility to research, script, direct and edit that programme. They will often manage a research team, a film crew and an editor, and will usually work to a producer. They are responsible for creatively the mood and personality of a programme. They need knowledge of lighting, sound, camera and editing hardware and techniques.
Sociable, needs to manage a team, organised.
Series Producer
Series producers have responsibility for making programmes happen. They begin work in the pre-production stage and work through until the series is delivered to the channel. Part of the role is ensuring that the series has a look and style, even when different directors are making the episodes.
Good team leader, sociable.
Researcher
A researcher’s main role is to find information, contributors, locations and archive for programmes. The role varies depending on the kind of production. But it will often include finding and interviewing contributors and finding facts for the script.
Organised, friendly, sociable, good at finding information quickly.
Make-up Designer
Make-up designers design and apply makeup to actors. This can mean creating accurate looks, transforming the age or structure of a face, or mimicking wounds or illnesses.
Artistic, organised, creative, come up with ideas quickly.
Production Co-ordinator TV
Production co-ordinators are responsible for ensuring that everything is in place for a production to run as smoothly as possible.
Organised, multi-tasked, good communication.
Runner
Runners may be asked to do anything that is required on the set to aid the progress of the shoot.
Work in a team, work quickly, and find out what needs to be where at what time.
Script Executive
Their main responsibility is to ensure the final script is shootable. If a writer has written sequences involving helicopter chases but the budget can’t stretch to that, it is the script executive who must find an alternative that makes up for it. They also change some of the script to fit the audience.
Communication, reliable, imaginative.
Multi Camera Director
During pre-production the multi camera director will plan camera positions and shots.
Team leader, quick, imaginative.
